HOUSTON –- Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod military chaplains and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) were commended in separate resolutions adopted July 16 by delegates to the church body’s 63rd Regular Convention.
Res. 1-06 recognizes more than 230 chaplains endorsed by the Synod’s Ministry to the Armed Forces, who “serve in arduous and dangerous arenas on land, sea, and air through lengthy and repeated deployments, separated from home and loved ones.” The resolution thanks God “for the sacrifice and faithful service of our chaplains to our men and women in uniform,” honors them for “serving with wisdom and integrity,” and commends the Ministry to the Armed Forces for “providing clear supervision and support for our chaplains.”
Res. 1-07 thanks the LWML, the LCMS women’s mission organization, for providing millions of dollars for missionary work worldwide during its 65-year history, supplying health kits for Hurricane Katrina and Rita survivors, providing leadership training for women, and adopting a 2005-07 mission goal of $1.625 million. (Its mission goal for 2007-09 is $1.7 million, adopted in convention June 21-24 in Sioux Falls, S.D.)
The resolution also commends the LWML for setting “primary target goals” in 2005-07 for Personal Spiritual Living, Partnering for Diversity, Servant Response, and Supporting Leaders, and for its 2005-07 mission grants.
With more than 250,000 members nationwide, the LWML focuses on “affirming each woman in her relationship with Christ to enable her to be in ministry among the people of the world.”
The 2007 LCMS triennial convention is meeting here July 14-19 under the theme “One Message – Christ! His Love is Here for You!”
