HOUSTON—Utilizing the theme “One People Forgiven through Christ to Forgive in the Family,” Ted Kober, founder and president of Ambassadors of Reconciliation, presented the convention’s morning Bible study July 13 on the importance of confession and forgiveness between family members.
Kober has led convention attendees in forgiveness-themed Bible studies each day of the convention.
The 64th Regular Convention of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod is meeting July 10–17 at the George R. Brown Convention Center under the theme “ONE People—Forgiven.” Among the approximately 3,000 participants are some 1,200 clergy and lay voting delegates.
Citing Luke 7:40–48, Kober noted that families often take forgiveness for granted since “Christians attempting to live out their vocations can and do fail to live as God’s children.” Using private confession and absolution in the home, however, can help families resolve these kinds of conflicts, Kober said, since “God involves Himself in our lives through His word of absolution.”
Sharing forgiveness with others is “urgent business,” Kober noted. Speaking of Christ’s forgiveness to individuals, Kober urged attendees to give and receive forgiveness “specifically, personally and directly” in their own families.
