Proclamation recognizes Missouri Synod contributions

ST. LOUIS, July 21, 2013—Francis G. Slay, mayor of the city of St. Louis, has proclaimed July 20-25, 2013, as “The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) Week.” The proclamation, issued as the church’s 65th Regular Convention begins, recognizes the contributions of the people of the LCMS to the region.

The proclamation reads:

“Whereas, it is my great pleasure to welcome everyone attending the 65th Regular Convention of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod to the great City of St. Louis; and

“Whereas, founded in 1847, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod has a rich legacy, having established many landmark institutions in St. Louis such as Concordia Seminary, Lutheran Hospital, and Concordia Publishing House, as well as long-running networks such as Lutheran Senior Services, KFUO Radio, Lutheran Family and Children’s Services of Missouri, and one of the nation’s largest parochial school systems; and

“Whereas, the St. Louis-based Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod today ranks as one of the largest U.S. Christian denominations and represents one of the largest nonprofit organizations in the St. Louis metropolitan area; and

“Whereas, on behalf of the people of St. Louis, I am pleased to extend thanks and appreciation to The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod for the many contributions it has made to the city, and I offer my best wishes to the delegates and guests for a productive convention and enjoyable stay.

“Now, therefore, I, Francis G. Slay, Mayor of the City of St. Louis, do hereby proclaim July 20 through July 25, 2013, as ‘The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Week’ in the City of St. Louis.

“In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the seal of the City of St. Louis, this 20th day of July, A.D. 2013.”
