Bruce Wurdeman, executive director of St. Louis-based Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) since 2009, has announced that he will retire from his position at the end of this year.
“My wife, Mj, and I … have some dreams about what retirement will be like, where we want to live and what we want to volunteer to do, and we are ready to pursue those,” Wurdeman said. “At LHM, the time seems right as well: we are getting strong encouragement from the churches in the LCMS and LCC [Lutheran Church—Canada], we are on solid financial footing and our staff is excited about the future. At the same time, there are some major projects in development at LHM that would benefit from a consistent hand at the helm over the next several years.”
Under Wurdeman’s leadership, LHM developed and launched its biennial Regional Outreach Conference events and initiated international “Online Mission Trips” for U.S. and Canadian Lutheran schools.
In his prior position as LHM’s director of United States Ministries, he oversaw the introduction of the Men’s NetWork, which now produces resources for men’s ministries at more than 4,200 LCMS congregations and has a total of nearly 17,000 registered users.
LHM is a ministry of the International Lutheran Laymen’s League, an LCMS auxiliary, which has begun a search for Wurdeman’s successor. To view the position description, click here. Applications and nominations will be accepted through June 15.
