“The Origin of Life: The Improbability of Chance, Mutation and Natural Selection” is the theme of the second creation conference to be sponsored by the Mequon, Wis.-based Society of Creation, an organization composed of full-time (and retired) faculty members of Concordia University System schools.
The purpose of the society, according to its website (societyofcreation.org/charter.php), is “to provide support, education, affirmation and encouragement for those who teach the historic position of the LCMS on the doctrine of creation and to affirm the biblical position on creation.”
The conference will be held at Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, from 1 p.m. on June 30 to noon on July 2. It is open to LCMS pastors, teachers, laypeople and anyone with an interest in defending creationism.
Keynote speakers will be:
- Dr. Kevin Anderson, author, speaker and editor-in-chief of the Creation Research Society Quarterly, who will address “Evolution’s Flawed Principles” and “The Human Genome: An Icon for Creation Science.”
- Jay Seegert, author, speaker and co-founder of the Creation Education Center in Waukesha, Wis., who will speak on “Evolution: Probable or Problematic?” and “I ‘Hear’ that Evolution is Impossible.”
Also making presentations will be:
- the Rev. Dr. Joel D. Heck, professor of theology at Concordia University Texas, Austin, who will address “The Grand Canyon and the Flood of Noah.”
- Dr. Gary Locklair, professor of computer science, chair of Computer Science and director of the Information Technology master’s program at Concordia University Wisconsin, on “Positive Creation Evidences.”
The three-day conference also will offer breakout sessions on topics related to creationism.
Heck, who also helped plan the conference, told Reporter that “this second annual creation conference will provide solid biblical and scientific evidence that the origin of life can only be attributed to an almighty God.”
Full registration is $55 (or $45 for a second person from the same family, church or church staff) and includes a box lunch on Tuesday, July 1. One-day registrations also are available for $15 (Monday or Wednesday) or $35 (Tuesday, includes box lunch).
The registration deadline is June 16. Those who register after that date must add $10 to the full conference rate, or $5 to the daily rate.
On-campus housing is available for $40 per night.
