Smith to discuss life and death in webinar

“I have been in the trenches of fighting against assisted suicide, health-care rationing, radical animal rights, anti-human environmentalism, etc., ad nauseum, for more than 20 years,” notes Wesley Smith. “About five years ago, it hit me like a punch: We can no longer debate these issues. Why? True debate requires a common frame of reference, but we have none.”

That void motivates Smith, a lawyer and award-winning author and upcoming “Free to be Faithful” webinar presenter, to speak even more passionately on behalf of human life and dignity. As a senior fellow at the Discovery Institute’s Center on Human Exceptionalism, Smith is one of the nation’s premier expert thinkers in bioengineering; a frequent guest on Issues, Etc.; and was one of the leading voices in speaking against the media frenzy regarding Brittany Maynard’s suicide.

Smith will speak to and take questions from LCMS members in an upcoming “Free to Be Faithful” webinar at 9 a.m. (CST) March 10. Free to be Faithful is the Synod’s education and awareness initiative that focuses on the issues of life, marriage and religious liberty. In this webinar, Smith will specifically address assisted suicide and the value of human life.

To register for the free webinar, complete the online registration form, email infocenter@lcms.org or call 888-THE LCMS (888-843-5267). Spaces for live participation in the call and webinar are limited, so those interested are encouraged to register now to join Smith and other Lutherans in a frank conversation about life and death and how Christians can speak to the importance of a proper understanding of both.

Can’t make it? A recorded version will be made available online shortly after the live webinar March 10 at Free to be Faithful.
