Lutheran Mission – Australia seeks a director of communications for a small-to-medium-sized nonprofit Christian organization serving Australia and southeast Asia. Members are located across Australia, both in congregations and, more remotely, as families and individuals. The aim is to effectively utilize technology, digital media and print to support an emerging national church body.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide sound advice on communication matters and activities;
  • Work independently and flexibly as part of a small team, taking the initiative to deliver both regular and innovative communications activities aligned with a strategic plan; and
  • Actively engage with the members of the communications and editorial groups.

The position is full-time, work-from-home, to start as soon as possible after July 1 for an initial period of 18 months. Relocation to Australia is preferred.

Position requirements:

  • Motivated Christian, willing to commit to a confessional statement, with a genuine interest in engaging with people using your communications expertise;
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a communications, marketing or digital role, preferably with a relevant qualification;
  • Proven ability to proactively identify opportunities and maximize media opportunities in line with the organization’s objectives and achievements while exercising sound judgment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work confidently with technology and software, including content management systems, social media, email marketing systems, design software, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop strong, effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Good time-management skills with a track record of meeting agreed deadlines; and
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate leadership and strong mentoring skills, proactively providing support to other team members as needed, as well as an ability to operate independently where required.

Desirable:

  • Experience in leading a small team or mentoring and supporting other team members; and
  • Experience working with volunteers and/or in a not-for-profit membership environment.

Personal attributes:

  • Flexible, adaptable and enjoys building and maintaining strong relationships with a variety of people; and
  • Self-motivated, pro-active and results-oriented.
