Position announcement: Director of Deaconess Studies, Concordia Seminary, St. Louis

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis (CSL), is seeking candidates for the position of director of the Residential Deaconess Studies and Online Deaconess Studies (ODS) programs. The deaconess in this position will advise and mentor students in the residential deaconess program; serve as dean of students in the ODS program; teach deaconess-specific courses and/or arrange for their instruction in the residential, ODS and EIIT (Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology) curricula; and oversee the ODS program and its operation.

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach deaconess-specific courses and/or arrange for their instruction in the residential, ODS and EIIT curricula.
  • Be responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the operational procedures related to the residential deaconess and ODS programs.
  • Attend admissions committee meetings when deaconess applicants for the residential or ODS programs are being considered for admission.
  • Oversee all on-campus experiences (orientation, residential formation seminars) for ODS students and their mentors and oversee training for the mentors during orientation.
  • Recommend ODS students to the Ministerial Formation Student Consultation Committee for certificate and placement.
  • Conduct internship visitation of ODS students in coordination with the Office of Vicarage and Deaconess Internships.

Qualifications:

  • Deaconess on the roster of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) with at least a theology master’s degree required.
  • At lease three years’ experience as a rostered deaconess in the LCMS.
