Sems announce events for high-school youth

The Synod’s two seminaries are sponsoring events this summer for high-school students, as they have for a number of years.

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, is accepting nominations for highschool men and women to attend its July 31-Aug. 3 Exploring Church Careers Event (ECCE) and Exploring the Pastoral Ministry (EPM) event for high-school men, Aug. 3-6.

With attendance limited to 80 participants who have never attended an ECCE, that event includes Bible study, worship and visits with people in a variety of church professions.

The EPM event, open to men who have attended an ECCE, features theological study, worship, visits with seminary professors and discussions with pastors.

Registration fees of $50 for the ECCE and $60 for the EPM cover all costs on campus, including meals and lodging.

n January, the St. Louis seminary plans to send all Synod pastors a nomination-form brochure for both events. For more information, go to the seminary Web site, www.csl.edu, click on “High School Youth” in the “Contents” listing, and then on either event. Or, call (314) 505-7722, or e-mail ecce@csl.edu.

Registration opens Jan. 1 for the sixth annual Christ Academy at Concordia Theological Seminary (CTS), Fort Wayne.  Set for June 20-July 3, the residential academy is for high-school men in the Synod “who want to learn more about the pastoral office,” says a seminary news release.  It says academy participants will join the seminary community “in its daily routine” and attend classes taught by seminary professors and others.

Cost for the academy runs $400 per person, and includes housing, meals and an outing to an amusement park in Ohio.

Applications for Christ Academy are included with the seminary’s  “Thy Kingdom Come” newsletter mailed to high-school students.

Registration also is open for the Fort Wayne seminary’s June 8-18 Christ Academy College — Germany, a program for college-age men who will back-pack through Germany.  A cost of $1,700 includes air fare.

For more information about Christ Academy or Christ Academy College — Germany, contact the CTS Office of Admission at (800) 481-2155; christacademy@mail.ctsfw.edu.
