Chief Administrative Officer
 
The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod’s Board of Directors (BOD) is seeking nominations for Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).  The CAO reports to the Board of Directors of the Synod and acts on behalf of the BOD in accordance with its policy manual and the position responsibilities assigned; he/she serves as the Board’s representative and staff person in synodical relations, administrative matters, corporate compliance, and legal matters; relates to and works with the full-time elected officers of the Synod; serves as liaison between the BOD and the executive officers of the other Synodwide corporations, Synod’s program boards, and commissions; serves as the Synod’s representative on the International Center’s Board for Human Resources, Facilities and Services Management Board, and in relating to Concordia Technologies of the Synod; provides supervision of the executive directors of Human Resources, General Serves and Concordia Technologies and engages and supervises compliance staff as needed.

In carrying out his/her responsibilities the CAO will serve as the BOD’s representative and CAO of the Synod; enhance relationships with the Board’s partners and administer the Board’s coordinative responsibilities; provide leadership to the administrative and legal functions of corporate Synod; be responsible for corporate Synod’s compliance with the Articles of Incorporation; Constitution, Bylaws, convention resolutions, Board policies, and applicable civil laws on behalf of the Board of Directors.
 
Nominees must be an active member of an LCMS congregation, faithful to the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions and supportive of the Synod’s Constitution, Bylaws, resolutions, practices, and policies.  He/she should possess at least 10 years or equivalent in corporate or organizational management in the private or public sector; a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business administration or in equivalent fields related to management and/or corporate compliance; have the ability to focus on the “big picture” with particular emphasis on enhancing efficiency and effectiveness of efforts; be knowledgeable regarding societal issues and trends and the use of technology in delivering services; be adept at listening to the views of others and combining them into proposals; be knowledgeable of the operations and structure of the Synod; have demonstrated experience in administration coupled with the ability to delegate responsibilities; have demonstrated relational skills with the ability to work with professional church workers and laity; have experience in the recruitment, development, and supervision of professional staff; and demonstrated communications skills to deal with diverse groups within the Synod, other church bodies, as well as with outside business and professional contacts; be strongly committed to model service and churchmanship rather than control, and be able to sustain extensive travel.
