Chief Administrative Officer
LCMS Board of Directors
 
The LCMS Board of Directors (BOD) seeks nominations of candidates for the position of chief administrative officer (CAO).
 
The CAO acts on behalf of the Board, specifically serving as the Board’s representative and staff person in synodical relations, in matters of business and administration, in legal matters and corporate compliance.  The CAO builds and maintains relations with the full-time elected officers and serves as liaison between the Board of Directors and the executive officers of the other Synodwide corporations.  The CAO serves as the BOD representative on a number of synodical boards, commissions and councils, including the International Center Board for Human Resources, Concordia Technology Services, and the Facilities and General Services Management Board.  Additionally, the CAO provides administrative supervision to the executive directors of the departments of Human Resources, General Services, and Concordia Technologies.
 
In this role as chief staff person of the BOD, the CAO provides assistance to the BOD in defining vision and leadership for the Synod and in adopting long-range plans, as well as serving as a liaison with and contact for the president of the LCMS and senior executives of other LCMS corporate entities.  The CAO is responsible for corporate Synod’s compliance with the synodical Bylaws, board policies, and applicable laws on behalf of the BOD.
 
Essential position qualifications include active membership in a Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod congregation, faithful to the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions, supportive of the Synod’s Constitution, Bylaws and policies and at least 10 years experience in line and staff positions in corporate or organizational management.  Candidates should have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business administration or in fields related to management and/or corporate compliance, be knowledgeable of the operation and structure of the Synod, and have demonstrated experience in administration combined with the ability to delegate responsibilities.

Executive Director/President
Board for Higher Education
Concordia University System

 
The Board for Higher Education (BHE)/Concordia University System (CUS) is seeking nominations for an executive director/president.  The executive director/president reports to the BHE/Board of Directors of the CUS and is responsible for administering the programs and operation of the BHE/CUS in accordance with the bylaws of the Synod/CUS and directing the cooperating and coordinating efforts of 10 individual institutional activities and programs in the leadership areas of curriculum advancement, fund development, finances, communication, faculty and student exchanges, and shared/consolidated services and uniform reporting systems.  The executive director/president is also administratively responsible for preparing agendas for the BHE/CUS and Board of Members; developing and monitoring the annual operating budget; coordinating triennial visits to the colleges, universities and seminaries of the Synod; soliciting and evaluating requests for capital projects and recommending priorities; keeping the BHE/CUS and Synod Board of Directors appropriately informed on pertinent issues related to their responsibilities as stated in the bylaws; coordinating the salary administration of the schools; engaging and supervising executive staff; and serving as the spokesperson/liaison of the BHE/CUS.
 
Nominees must be a member in good standing of an LCMS congregation, committed to the Scriptural and Confessional position of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod; have the proven ability to communicate effectively; have the ability to lead and manage staff, build relationships with associates and work collaboratively with a board; be respected by members of the Synod; and possess financial expertise in relating to accounting and finance staff both within the Synod and with external institutions.
