ST. LOUIS — Delegates to the 62nd Regular Convention of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod voted today (July 15) to limit interim chief executive officers to 18 months, unless the Synod president approves extension of their terms.
The resolution was amended so that it pertains only to those who begin their interim service after July 15, 2004.
At the request of delegates, the addition to Bylaws 3.69e and 3.193 relating to the clarification was added to the resolution. It reads: “Any interim appointments of the executive officer shall be processed in a similar manner. Such appointee must be approved by the president of the Synod, may not serve more than 18 months without the concurrence of the president, and shall be ineligible to serve on a permanent basis without the concurrence of the president.”
The convention defeated a resolution, brought by the floor committee on structure, planning and administration, which called for a Blue Ribbon Committee to make recommendations to the 2007 convention regarding delegate representation at future conventions. The vote was 446-547.
