`Harvesters` can help with parish outreach

With 25 two-member teams ready to serve, “Harvesters for Christ” would like to hear from congregations that need a team to help begin, revitalize, enhance or expand their outreach-ministry efforts.

Since 1997, more than 100 congregations in 29 districts have used Harvesters teams for such help, according to Rev. Al Tormoehlen, director of the program for LCMS District and Congregational Services — Outreach Ministry.

Tormoehlen said that Harvesters teams are “typically retired couples who serve with congregations for three to four weeks, with the congregations responsible only for their travel, lodging and meals.”

He said that although a Harvesters team usually serves a single congregation, two smaller congregations with similar needs “might be well served by together hosting a team.”

To discuss with Tormoehlen the possibility of applying for a Harvesters team for your congregation, contact him at (800) 248-1930, Ext. 1287; al.tormoehlen@lcms.org.  Information also is on the Web at www.lcms.org/outreach.

Tormoehlen said that congregations should allow at least four months from the time they request an application for a team to the time they need that team on-site.
