ST. LOUIS — Linda Reiser, president of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), addressed delegates this morning (July 14), painting a picture of the Synod auxiliary today.
“The LWML in your congregation might be seen as the group that meets once a month,” puts on a program, or works in the church kitchen, Reiser said. But the organization of more than 250,000 women “is more than just a meeting.”
“We have a mission — to be sisters of an all-star team, united in prayer and financial support for missions around the world,” Reiser said. “LWML is more than a program — we have a purpose. We give when we don’t have to. … We give because we want to share that love of Christ with others.”
The LWML, Reiser said, represents “servanthood — to love, to help, to pray, to serve and to give.”
Reiser invited convention-goers and their families to attend the next LWML convention, June 16-19, 2005, in Tampa, Fla., and asked for their prayers and financial support so that the organization might reach its goal of raising more than $1.5 million for 14 grants that will be used to “bring the love of Christ to women, children and men around the globe.”
In its 60 years, the LWML has distributed worldwide more than 280 mission grants totaling more than $17.5 million, Reiser said.
