`Confabulation` scheduled for June

“Fan the Flame,” based on 2 Tim. 1:6-7, is the theme for the first LCMS Campus Mission “Confabulation,” to be held June 23-26 in Chicago.

The event is designed to encourage and equip campus workers, lay volunteers, and college students who are involved — or are interested — in campus ministry.  It is sponsored by the Lutheran Campus Mission Association, a mission society that works in partnership with LCMS World Mission to promote campus ministry.

“If you’re near a college or university, you’re near a big mission field,” said Greg Witto, chairman of the Confabulation Planning Committee.  Witto also is director of Campus and Family Life Ministries at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charleston, Ill., which serves students at Eastern Illinois University.  Witto said the Confabulation is designed for those “who are interested in campus ministry just as much as it’s for those who are already part of a campus mission ministry.”

Keynote speaker will be Rev. Larry Krueger, assistant to the president of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod and a former campus pastor who served Texas A&M University.

The conference will offer workshops on “Developing a Plan for Missions”; “Outreach Strategies, Tools, and Techniques”; “Reaching Out in Small Groups”; “Funding the Mission”; “Service Learning”; and “Connecting with Lutheran Student Fellowship.”

Registration is $130 per person, or $90 for students, and includes an opening reception and four additional meals.  Lodging is available, at a special rate, at the Hyatt Woodfield, site of the conference.  Deadline for registrations is June 1.
