Applications are being accepted for “Harvesters for Christ,” aiming toward an Aug. 25-28 training event for those whose applications are approved.
Harvesters is a program of LCMS District and Congregational Services that uses trained evangelism volunteers to help congregations begin, revitalize, enhance, or expand their Gospel outreach ministry to unchurched people in their communities.
Rev. Al Tormoehlen, director of the program, explained that Harvesters teams are “typically but not necessarily retired couples,” and that all the volunteers “have zeal for expanding Christian outreach.”
Harvesters teams usually serve congregations for a three- to four-week period. During that time, congregations are responsible for covering their teams’ needs, including supplies, travel, food, and lodging.
Grant funds from the Marvin M. Schwan Charitable Foundation cover registration and other expenses for the training of those accepted as “Harvesters.”
