The College of Liberal Arts and Science at Concordia University at Austin, Austin, Texas, seeks applicants for a full-time position in communication.  The position will begin January or August 2006.  The successful candidate will teach Communication Technology, Media Production, Media Analysis and Criticism, and other communication courses as needed.  A Ph.D. in communication is preferred as well as demonstrated expertise in communication technologies. Concordia University, Irvine, Calif., seeks applicants to fill possible faculty openings in the disciplines listed below.  Enrollment will determine which positions are funded for the 2006-2007 academic year.

To be considered, a candidate must be a member of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod and should possess a graduate degree in the field.  A doctor’s degree is normally required, but a candidate with a master’s degree who is willing and able to pursue a doctorate may be considered.

Dean, School of Business.  The dean is the academic officer of the School of Business with the responsibility for academic planning, budget management, curriculum development, course scheduling, instruction, evaluation and professional development of faculty and staff, and allocation of learning resources.  The dean promotes and oversees the Dean’s Advisory Board, builds relationships with area businesses, and actively engages in fundraising for the school.  The dean also teaches classes in his or her academic field.  For a complete job description, send an inquiry to the acting dean at john.rooney@cui.edu.

Director of Nursing.  The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field, with a master’s degree in nursing; a current RN license; administrative and teaching experience in higher education; and demonstrated leadership in curricular and faculty development.  Expectations include the development of a new nursing program, culminating in State certification.  In addition, the successful candidate will have the ability to identify and secure financial resources, recruit faculty, and develop partnerships with area clinics and hospitals for the support of the nursing program.

Art.  Instruction of courses may include general education and foundation courses in the art major, including Elements of Art and Design.  The candidate must possess the ability to integrate a strong sense of pedagogy and structure in the classroom as well as a desire to mentor students and assist with departmental tasks.  Additional duties may include organization of student art exhibitions.  Candidates should have an MFA with related teaching and artistic experience.

Business.  Instruction of courses may include marketing, finance, accounting, and information technology.  Teaching experience is required; experience in the business world a plus.

Communication.  Instruction of courses may include but is not limited to public speaking, journalism, organizational communication, communication theory and/or criticism.  Experience with and interest in directing a forensic program is preferred but is not required.

Education.  Candidates will have experience in one or more of the following areas:  educational administration, language acquisition, literacy, curriculum development and/or instructional methods.  Experience as an elementary, middle school, or secondary classroom teacher or administrator is expected.  Experience in highly diverse settings is a high priority.

MA Program in International Studies.  Students in this program are expected to spend a year in China teaching English and concurrently complete courses in an online format for a master’s degree.  Candidates for this position are expected to teach in the program, coordinate courses, select instructors, maintain communication with students during their year abroad, and generally oversee the academic program.  The success
