Concordia University, River Forest, Ill., seeks applicants for the following three positions:

Teacher Education Department.  Rank commensurate with qualification and experience.  Applicants should have expertise in two or more of the following areas:  early childhood, curriculum and instruction, English as a second language (bilingual education), reading, elementary science/math, or special education.  The calendar year for the two-year position is from July 1 through June 30, 2008.  Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, maintaining an active program of scholarship including presentations and publications, and participating in service and community activities.

Qualified candidates should have an earned doctorate or be near completion of a doctorate in teacher education, curriculum and instruction or a closely related field; have a solid record of teaching and involvement in P-12 settings; and must be committed to Lutheran education and values congruent with The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod.

Theatre.  Position begins in the 2006-07 academic year.  Responsibilities include teaching basic and advanced theatre-related courses, as well as the speech communication course; act as technical director for the theatre productions; direct one theatre production a year; and perform other duties in the department, depending upon interests and expertise of candidate.

Candidates must have college teaching experience, be committed to teaching excellence, have at least a master’s degree, with a commitment to a terminal degree in theatre (Ph.D. in theatre or enrollment in a doctoral program preferred), and be able to support the mission of the university as a Lutheran Christian institution based in the liberal arts.

Assistant professor in Political Science in the Department of History, Political Science, and Philosophy.  Position begins in the 2006 fall semester.  The primary teaching responsibilities will be in international relations and law, though various courses dealing with other topics in American government, politics, and interdisciplinary studies may also be assigned.  Holders of M.A. or J.D. considered; Ph.D. in Political Science or timely progress toward one after appointment is required.

Concordia University, Irvine, Calif., seeks applicants for a full-time faculty position in Library Services.  This position is responsible for selection, acquisition, accessibility, and maintenance of library materials, electronic databases, and equipment that support Concordia’s academic programs and campus community needs.  The director supervises professional and support staff, including both regular and student employees, ensuring provision of appropriate training in searching for information, operating library equipment and other regular library functions (e.g., circulation, re-shelving, inventory).  To be considered, a candidate must be a member of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, possess a master’s degree in library science, and have at least five (5) years of successful experience in library service.  In addition, effective communication skills with a wide range of users, excellent organizational skills, and a highly developed ability to use regular office computer applications, as well as applications and databases specific to library operations, must be demonstrated.

Concordia University, Portland, Ore., seeks applicants to fill the following positions:

Composition and communications faculty positions. These two positions begin July 1. Responsibilities are to teach introductory and advanced composition courses. The composition position involves directing the Writing Center, developing writing across the curriculum, and advising a literary magazine. Director of Christian Ministries position in the College of Education. Responsibilities are to develop and provide administrative oversight of all professional church work programs in the College of Education; teach in the DCE curriculum; promote and support Lutheran educational ministries throughout the Pacific Northwest; and assist in the recruitment of director of Christian Education and Lutheran teacher candidates.
 
Qualifications include:

  • LCMS (synodically trained), with commitment to the Christian faith and membership in an LCMS congregation;
  • minimum
