Hymnal workshops start

Pastors and church musicians are not the only ones who will benefit from 280 introductory workshops this fall for the Synod’s new Lutheran Service Book (LSB), says Dr. Paul Grime, executive director of the LCMS Commission on Whymnal/CPHorship, which prepared the new worship resource along with Concordia Publishing House (CPH). The first of those workshops are being held in September.

While noting that the 280 workshops throughout the United States and Canada are “really intended for everyone,” Grime told Reporter he is convinced that church secretaries would especially benefit from participating in workshops.

Explaining that secretaries are often responsible for preparing the weekly service bulletin, Grime said “they will be very interested in learning about Lutheran Service Builder, the electronic version of the hymnal.  The Builder provides a powerful and easy way of fulfilling that weekly task.”

For a registration fee of $20 per person, each workshop participant will receive a copy of the new hymnal and a 108-page guide with an in-depth introduction to LSB. All workshops are set for Saturdays, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

For more information on workshops or to register online, go to http://lsb.cph.org and click on “workshops.”  Or, contact the LCMS Commission on Worship at (800) 248-1930, Ext. 1265, for a list of workshop sites throughout North America and for a registration form.

Grime said that CPH, which began filling orders for LSB in August, reports that hymnal sales “have been extremely encouraging at this early stage.”
