Conference to `equip` international-student workers

International Student Ministry (ISM) Inc., an LCMS mission society based in Stevens Point, Wis., is sponsoring an “Equipping Conference” May 24-27 in West Lafayette, Ind.  The conference is designed for professional church workers and volunteers who work with international students on U.S. college campuses.

Keynote speaker will be Rev. Scott Snow, director of outreach with LCMS World Mission.  Rev. Thomas A. Going, director of the Japanese Mission Society, will lead Bible studies.

Conference participants may attend up to three workshops on topics such as fundraising and public relations; “discipling/teaching internationals”; starting an international student ministry; reaching out through special events; “sharing the ISM story”; recruiting, equipping, and keeping volunteers; English-as-a-second-language and English conversation programs; ministry to families; reaching out to Chinese people; and planning and leading Bible studies.

Participants also will have opportunities to share and discuss ideas, worship together, and hear presentations from those who work among international students.

Registration is $100 per person and includes all meals and lodging at Hillenbrand Hall, the newest residence hall at Purdue University.  Deadline for registrations is May 4.
