HOUSTON – International LLL President Jack Kidwell brought greetings to the assembled delegates during the morning session today (July 18).
“The convention theme of . . . One Message: Christ . . . is a tremendous reminder of why we are here and what the work is truly about. Christ is the reason for the work we do,” he said. “That’s why, as an auxiliary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, we boldly share the Gospel message around the world and engage our volunteers in personal avenues of service.”
Kidwell mentioned three programs for volunteers that Lutheran Hour Ministries uses to reach its goals: Equipping to Share workshops, Global Care Packages, and Global Work and Witness programs. “Each program is designed to equip and engage individuals as they enhance their service for the Lord,” he added.
Today, through Christian radio and TV programming, Internet and print communications, dramas, music, and congregational outreach training, Lutheran Hour Ministries works with The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, Lutheran Church-Canada, and congregations worldwide. Last year, more than one million people contacted LHM worldwide, and nearly 80,000 referrals were made to local pastors as a result of Lutheran Hour Ministries’ media programs.
“Lutheran Hour Ministries and the International Lutheran Laymen’s League look forward to a bright future as remarkable media breakthroughs open more doors to communicate with more people around the world who long for answers, love, and meaning in their lives,” he said.
Kidwell, of Bay City, Mich., serves as president of the International Lutheran Laymen’s League (Int’l LLL), a volunteer Christian organization of approximately 150,000 members.
The theme of the Synod’s 63rd Regular Convention, July 14-19, is “One Message—Christ! His Love is Here for You!”
