Lutheran Schools Week set for March

Schools operated by Synod congregations are ordering promotional materials and gearing up to tell the community about their ministries as they get ready for “National Lutheran Schools Week 2007” March 4-10.

“Lutheran Schools — A Great Place to Grow” is the overall multi-year theme for the observance, with aschools week logo special emphasis this year on “Tranforming Lives” — a sub-theme based on 2 Cor. 3:18.

The overall theme “allows our Lutheran schools to celebrate their ministry in a public way,” said William Cochran, director of School Ministry with the Synod’s Board for District and Congregational Services.

“Many of our schools have special events in their communities, such as open houses, celebrations, and other activities that make this week special,” Cochran told Reporter.  “It allows for special public relations to the community.”

Cochran said the “Transforming Lives” sub-theme “helps our schools focus on their purpose of developing disciples who live to make a contribution to others in the name of Jesus Christ.”

A worship and activity booklet for this year’s Schools Week observance is available free on the School Ministry Web page at www.lcms.org/pages/default.asp?NavID=1694.  Subscribers to the Lutheran School Portal may download the booklet on the “National” tab of the portal.

Balloons, pencils, and stickers with the 2007 Schools Week logo are available for order from the School Ministry office.  For prices and ordering information for those items, see the Schools Week flier/order form that School Ministry mailed last month to all LCMS schools and preschools.  Or, go to the address above on the DCS School Ministry Web page.
