Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis, the publishing arm of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, is searching for candidates to fill two positions:

  • An experienced director of marketing to lead its Marketing Division.  Duties include overseeing the development and implementation of business plans for the various product lines; managing each business groups’ direction through an ongoing assessment of products, pricing, and position; evaluating opportunities for new products; and establishing pricing strategies, discount structures, and guidelines for sales channels/target markets.

    Requirements include BA/BS in marketing or related field, MBA preferred, and 10 years experience. 

  • An editor of school, midweek, and confirmation materials.  The editor will develop plans for educational materials, identify and supervise writers, rewrite and edit manuscripts, and supervise the production of resources.

    To be considered, a candidate must be a rostered member of the LCMS, hold a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred), have at least five years of ministry experience, and display ability in writing and editing to teach the faith.

Concordia Plan Services of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, St. Louis, seeks to fill the position of vice president, Products and Services.  Concordia Plan Services administers the benefit programs and the trusts by which programs are funded for full-time workers of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, its controlled organizations, member congregations, and affiliated agencies.  This position is responsible for market research, design, development, and appropriate funding of products and services, strategic management of benefit vendors and of external actuarial and benefit consultants, actuarial analysis and reporting and monitoring emerging employee benefit issues/trends/legislation.  Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree, five to 10 years’ experience in the area of employee benefits, insurance, or consulting.  Design and funding experience is critical.  Actuarial experience is preferred. Concordia University, Portland, Ore., seeks a dynamic individual to join its growing team as director of church relations.  The director will have the unique opportunity to work with administration, faculty, and Foundation staff to create a strategic and robust church relations program, including fundraising for university priorities and the new Center for Lutheran Studies; initiatives designed to strengthen collaborative relationships with Lutheran congregations, agencies, and individuals in the Northwest; and the enhancement of student recruitment and support for the lay and professional church workers of the region.  Qualified candidates should have a passion for Lutheran education, experience in major gift fundraising, skills in strategic planning, and possess strong oral and written abilities, as well as be a rostered member of the LCMS.

Concordia College, Bronxville, N.Y., seeks applicants for the following positions:

  • Teacher Education Program Chair.  The chair is responsible to the assistant dean of the Division of Professional Studies and to the dean of the college in matters pertaining to faculty, curriculum, and administration.  Specifically, the chair is responsible for supervising, evaluating, and course loading full-time and adjunct faculty.  Other duties include preparation and management of department budget, advising, and mentoring students, teaching one course each semester, and coordinating the teacher education program with other programs within the college.  The chair will be responsible for providing vision and leadership in the development of the programs and curriculum of the department that will include the start of a graduate program in education, maintaining NCATE accreditation and New York State certification.

    Candidates should have an earned doctorate in teacher education or a related field with teaching and/or administrative experience in higher education.  Previous experience at the elementary or secondary level will also be considered.  Commitment to Lutheran education and values consistent with The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod are given preference.  Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

  • Full-time faculty positions in psychology, philosophy, English, and new media.  Applicants should be willing to teach a broad range of courses in their discipline.  Qualifications include a Ph.D. (with the exception of new media) and a commitment to teaching excellence.  Concordia seeks applicants who can contribute to both the liberal arts tradition and the Lutheran values of the college.  As an institution of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, Concordia reserves the right, to the extent allowed by law, to give preference in employment based on religion.  The search committee will begin reviewing applicants immediately for these fall 2007 openings.
