Concordia University, Seward, Neb., seeks a provost to provide visionary leadership for all aspects of academic and student life functions of the university including recruitment, retention, and marketing of the undergraduate and graduate colleges.  The provost serves as senior advisor to the president, chief academic officer and as acting or interim president in the absence of the president.  The provost reports directly to the president and will provide leadership in faculty and staff development, university-wide policy formulation, graduate and undergraduate program planning and academic assessment.

The provost is a member of the faculty; serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet and chair of the cabinet in the president’s absence; participates in a collegial leadership with the chief financial officer and vice president for Institutional Advancement to provide senior management and leadership for the university and executive and strategic counsel for the president.  The provost provides direct leadership to the faculty and to the following academic and administrative leaders:  dean, College of Arts and Sciences; dean, College of Education; dean, College of Graduate Studies; vice president of Enrollment Management and Marketing; vice president of Student Servant Leadership Development/Dean of Students; registrar, and director of Library Services.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess an earned doctorate, an outstanding record of teaching, research and scholarship, and at least five years of successful leadership in higher education, senior administrative experience preferable at the level of dean or higher and demonstrated experience with fiscal management, marketing, student recruitment and retention, and resource allocation.  Further, the candidate must have a strong commitment to Lutheran Christian higher education and the specific mission of Concordia University, Nebraska, to prepare students to serve and lead in the church and world.  The provost must be a member in good standing of a congregation of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

Summary of competencies:

  • Ability to integrate quality improvement to lead academic and institutional excellence, especially the assessment of student academic achievement.
  • Ability to develop, implement and expand academic programs.
  • Understanding of and experience in enrollment management and marketing.
  • Ability to integrate all aspects of the academic experience, including student services, placement, advisement, student development, and co-curricular experiences.
  • Ability to provide results-oriented leadership.
  • Strong fiscal and human resource manager.
  • Ability to work as a member of a high-performance team.
  • Ability to provide institution-wide strategic counsel and support to the president.

Concordia University College of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, seeks applicants or nominations for a permanent-stream position at the assistant professor level in the Department of Religious Studies.  The position begins Aug. 1, subject to budgetary approval.  Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience; Ph.D. or Th.D. required.  Preference will be given to applicants with an enthusiasm for teaching and an interest in teaching introductory courses in the Christian faith and biblical theology.  The position requires specialization in New Testament studies, with qualifications in the field of theology being desirable.  Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the educational mission and values of Concordia as a liberal arts university college of the Lutheran Church—Canada.  Concordia, a member of the AUCC, offers accredited bachelor’s degrees in Arts, Science, Management, Education, and Environmental Health, and a master’s degree in Information Systems Security Management.  It also offers the Director of Parish Services as a post-degree diploma programs.  All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.  Review of applications will begin on Feb. 23 and continue until the position is filled.
