The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod seeks nominations for the position of executive director, Board for Black Ministry Services.
The executive director:
coordinates and promotes the program of Synod’s ministry to Blacks in judicatories of the Synod at national, district, and local levels in keeping with the Bylaws of the Synod.
recommends policies to the Board for Black Ministry Services that will assist congregations in reaching out more effectively with the Gospel of Jesus Christ among African-Americans.
initiates and promotes research and field work to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of Black ministry in the Synod.
administers the Black recruitment program for full-time professional church workers and the Black scholarship program in accordance with the policies established by the Board for Black Ministry Services and approved by the Board for University Education and the LCMS Board of Directors.
develops and administers the budget approved by the Board of Directors for the Department of Black Ministry.
interprets and promotes the activities of the Board for Black Ministry Services through available means, such as mass media, church publications, conferences, the Synod’s training schools for full-time church workers, and personal appearances as may be requested by the synodical president.
works cooperatively with other church bodies to enhance worship and ministry of and to Black membership in the LCMS.
assists districts in developing and empowering congregations to reach out and share the Gospel with the Black constituency in their geographic area.
Qualified nominees must be a member of the clergy of the LCMS with eight years experience in the ministry of the Synod; be faithful to the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions and supportive of the Synod’s Constitution, Bylaws, and policies; have demonstrated capacity for administrative responsibility; have demonstrated skills and experience in public relations; have demonstrated knowledge of and concern for the peculiar problems confronting Black communities within and outside the church; have knowledge of the history and polity of the LCMS; and have generalized and special educational training commensurate with the demands of the job.
