Fort Wayne sem offers workshops for organists

This summer, Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., will offer two five-day workshops for organists:

  • A “Primer” course June 16-20 is a beginning workshop for organists who do not use pedals, use only one foot, or want to learn more about the basics of service playing.  The course will cover fundamental music understanding and organ vocabulary and include an introductory course on the Lutheran theology of worship and a demonstration of “easy” service music.

Instructors will be Kevin J. Hildebrand, associate kantor; and Rev. Richard C. Resch, associate professor of pastoral ministry and missions.

  • “Level 1,” June 14-18, includes a daily one-hour session on the “theology of worship,” plus instruction on service playing, hymnody, the church year, music for weddings and funerals, and the pastor-musician relationship.  This workshop is designed for organists who have taken the Primer Level or are using both feet in their playing.

Instructors will be Resch and Rev. John T. Pless, assistant professor of pastoral ministry and missions and director of field education.

Tuition for each workshop is $206; on-campus room and board is an additional $175.
