Sem to host concert in memory of Robert Bergt

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, will host a special concert in memory of Rev. Robert Bergt, the late conductor and music director of the seminary’s “Bach at the Sem” concerts and its artist-in-residence. The concert is planned for 3 p.m. Sept. 25 in the seminary’s Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus.

Bergt, whose work is known around the world, died July 26 at the age of 81.

In 1968, Bergt founded the American Kantorei, a choral and instrumental group that has performed in a variety of settings and was the first group of its kind in the United States.  Since 1993, the group, under Bergt’s direction, performed regular concerts in the “Bach at the Sem” series.

The memorial concert will feature the American Kantorei performing pieces by J.S. Bach, including “Et Resurrexit” and “Cum Sancto Spiritu” from the Mass in B Minor.  Concordia Seminary President Dr. Dale A. Meyer will provide an invocation and a message during the concert.

A reception will be held after the concert on the chapel plaza.

The concert also will be broadcast on KFUO Radio (850 AM) and www.classic99.com on Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. CDT.
