Event set for 11 a.m.-noon CT Wednesday
ST. LOUIS, June 17, 2013—The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod is planning its first-ever tweet chat and is encouraging its members and church workers to join Lutheran leaders in a discussion about God’s intention for marriage.
The live conversation about marriage and sexuality is scheduled for 11 a.m.-noon CT Wednesday, June 19.
Twitter users are encouraged to sign into their accounts and tweet their questions using the hashtag #LCMSMarriage. They also are asked to share the LCMS responses with their friends and family.
“The definition of marriage is changing,” said the Rev. Bart Day, executive director of the LCMS Office of National Mission. “The good people of the LCMS are engaging the culture with the Gospel but often this is a difficult task. We are pleased to host this chat and pray it will benefit the church and world.”
Chat moderators will include Day and Dr. Beverly Yahnke, executive director of Christian counseling at DOXOLOGY: The Lutheran Center for Spiritual Care and Counseling.
“Who could have guessed that marriage would be such a controversial matter?” Yahnke asked. “How is it possible for the culture to have changed our concept of marriage so radically over the last 25 years?
“What does Scripture tell us about this holy institution and our opportunity to bear witness in these days? Join this LCMS Twitter conversation and take on the task of speaking the truth in love.”
The conversation will be posted on LCMS.org/freetobefaithful following the event.
