2,300 Missouri Synod schools proclaim, celebrate God’s work among Lutheran schools
ST. LOUIS, January 16, 2014—The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s (LCMS) annual National Lutheran Schools Week celebration, held this year Jan. 26-Feb. 1, provides the church’s 2,300 preschools, elementary schools and high schools with the public opportunity to proclaim and celebrate God’s work among students, families, faculty and staff.
The week’s festivities may include special schoolwide activities, philanthropic events and an open house for the community. The theme for the 2014 observance is “Witness Always – Raising up faithful disciples,” based on 1 John 5:7-8: “For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree” (ESV). The theme songs for the week are “Sharing the Caring Christ” by Lana Gibbons and “Rise, Shine, You People” (Lutheran Service Book 825).
LCMS School Ministry – which serves to support and uphold educators, administrators and church leaders so that through them, children at LCMS schools may be equipped as disciples of Jesus Christ – offers a free resource kit filled with ideas and materials for helping LCMS schools celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week.
“We thank God for the opportunity to provide excellent academic preparation for the children we serve,” said Terry Schmidt, director of LCMS School Ministry. “We are most grateful for the opportunity to share Jesus’ amazing love with children and their families. National Lutheran Schools Week gives us an opportunity to proclaim these great blessings within the communities we serve.”
