Concordia Seminary will host its 25th Annual Theological Symposium — “Faithful Witness to God’s Story in the World Around Us: Bringing a Unique Perspective to Common Human Experiences” — Sept. 23-24 on its campus in St. Louis.
Main presenters include Concordia Seminary faculty:
- Rev. Dr. Charles Arand, dean of theological research and publications; director of the Center for the Care of Creation; and Waldemar A. June Schuette Chair in Systematic Theology.
- Rev. Dr. Erik Herrmann, director of Theological Resources and “REF500” Planning, and director of the Center for Reformation Research.
- Rev. Dr. Leopoldo Sánchez, director of the Center for Hispanic Studies and Werner R.H. Krause and Elizabeth Ringger Krause Endowed Chair for Hispanic Ministries.
- Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Oschwald, international seminary exchange coordinator and associate professor of Exegetical Theology.
- Rev. Dr. William Schumacher, director of the Institute for Mission Studies and chairman of the Department of Historical Theology.
Sectional presenters from the seminary include:
- Rev. Thomas Egger, assistant professor of Exegetical Theology.
- Rev. Dr. Timothy Saleska, dean of Ministerial Formation and associate professor of Exegetical Theology.
- Rev. Anthony Cook, curriculum specialist and director of Continuing Education.
Also leading sectionals will be:
- Rev. Dr. Richard Eyer, director emeritus of the Concordia Center for Bioethics at Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon.
- Rev. Mark Koschmann, assistant pastor of Missions and Outreach at Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church in St. Louis.
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Professor Daisy Machado of Union Theological Seminary in New York, N.Y., will speak about “Missio Dei and the Latino Reality: Rethinking the Goal and Purpose of Missions.” The lecture, sponsored by the seminary’s Center for Hispanic Studies, is free and open to the public.
Full registration is $135 per person ($145 per person after the Sept. 5 deadline) and includes all program materials, a buffet reception and refreshments.
Also available, for additional fees, are a Continuing Education Unit (CEU), meals and limited on-campus housing.
An optional golf outing on Monday, Sept. 22, followed by hors d’oeuvres and fellowship, also is available to symposium participants. This pre-symposium activity is $50 per person. Contact the Office of Continuing Education to set up teams or to sponsor a Concordia Seminary student to play.
