Rural-church leaders invited to ‘Engaging Your Community’

Professional and lay leaders of congregations in rural and small-town settings are invited to take part in “Engaging Your Community,” an outreach event sponsored by LCMS Rural & Small Town Mission and the Synod’s Kansas District.

The workshop will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church in Nortonville, Kan.

Participants — “ideally, a pastor and three to four lay leaders” from each congregation, according to a news release about the event — will examine their own communities and consider ways they can serve their areas’ unique needs. The process will include identifying personal and congregational assets and making plans for using their resources to engage their communities.

Rural-church leaders also will explore how to build and strengthen partnerships to find ways to work with others to fill those community needs, and will receive personalized demographics for their communities.

Registration is $25 per person and includes lunch, snacks and materials. To register, click here, call 888-463-5127 or send an email to rstm@lcms.org. The deadline is March 13.
