Joy Ryan of Fargo, N.D., began serving Aug. 3 as president and CEO of Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch in Fargo.
Ryan succeeds Gene D. Kaseman, who has been with the organization since 1972. Kaseman now serves as executive CEO for the Ranch.
In her previous position of executive vice-president at The Village Family Service Center — a Fargo-based human-service agency with 21 offices across North Dakota and Minnesota — Ryan was responsible for overseeing operations: outpatient counseling; children’s specialty services; intensive, in-home counseling for at-risk children; high-need day care; substance-abuse treatment; financial counseling; business services; and mentoring. She also led fundraising and marketing communications, including publication of a magazine, since 1998. She had been with the agency since 1994.
Prior to that, Ryan worked in the business sector, primarily in marketing and communications management. She also has held adjunct faculty positions at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, and the Fargo campus of the University of Mary.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, a master’s degree in management and certification in executive leadership.
Ryan and her husband, Jay, have three children and two grandchildren.
An LCMS Recognized Service Organization, Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch was started in 1952 and today serves more than 100 youth daily in psychiatric, residential treatment programs in Fargo, Bismarck and Minot, N.D. Its mission is to “help at-risk children and their families succeed in the name of Christ.”
