The Rev. Terry Forke of Billings, Mont., was elected to his fifth term as president of the LCMS Montana District at the district’s 34th convention, June 11–14 in Billings. He was unopposed.
Also elected were:
- Rev. Chris Tabbert, pastor at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Eureka, Mont., first vice-president (re-elected); and
- Rev. Ryan Wendt, pastor at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Billings, second vice-president (first term).
The officers were installed at the convention.
Meeting under the convention theme “The Truth Came Through Jesus Christ” from John 1:17, delegates adopted resolutions to:
- call on LCMS congregations and schools to teach that God created the universe in six solar days and that death is a result of sin.
- ask the LCMS Office of the President to conduct a review of how the theory of evolution is being addressed at each of the Synod’s universities and seminaries.
- call for a study on how to streamline the Concordia University System by reducing the number of colleges and universities it supports, to focus on the education of church workers.
- call for the development of a plan to reduce the size of districts so that no district would consist of more than 100 congregations.
- call for the Specific Ministry Pastor program to adopt the academic requirements of the Alternate Route program.
