Hill re-elected president of Wyoming District

2018 District Conventions

The Rev. John E. Hill was elected to his second term as president of the LCMS Wyoming District at the district’s 19th convention, held May 3–5 in Casper, Wyo. He was elected on the first ballot.

Also elected were:

  • Rev. Mark J. Maas, pastor of King of Glory Lutheran Church, Cheyenne, Wyo., first vice-president (previously served as second vice-president);
  • Rev. Ted A. Bourret, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Potter, Neb., and Salem Lutheran Church, Gurley, Neb., as second vice-president (first term); and
  • Rev. Jonathan G. Lange, pastor of Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Evanston, Wyo., and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kemmerer, Wyo., as third vice-president (first term).

The officers were installed at the convention.

Delegates also adopted resolutions to:

  • repent for the failure to uphold the integrity of marriage, “teach and confess the Bible’s doctrine and practice of marriage with renewed effort” and memorialize the 2019 LCMS Convention to do the same;
  • support and strengthen marriage and family and memorialize the 2019 LCMS Convention to “exhort all her members at all levels and at every opportunity to confirm publicly that marriage and family are good”;
  • give witness that same-sex unions are not marriage and memorialize the 2019 LCMS Convention to “commend all people, whoever they are, to recognize and bear witness to the truths written into creation”;
  • affirm the sanctity of human life, advocate against any practice intended to shorten or end life, and work with congregations to raise awareness of life issues; and
  • give thanks to God that He has given the Scriptures as the only rule and norm of faith and practice, and to memorialize the 2019 LCMS Convention to join in giving thanks for and teaching God’s Word faithfully in the congregations, schools, universities and seminaries of the Synod.

Additional resolutions were passed revising district bylaws and giving thanks to servants of Christ’s Church. The convention theme was “We preach Christ crucified” (1 Cor. 1:23).
