Lutheran Friends of the Deaf (LFD), a Recognized Service Organization of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), is hosting a camp for both deaf and hearing children Aug. 13–15 in Mill Neck, N.Y. Children ages 6–12 are invited to attend.
Gospel Hands Bible Camp will be held on the 86-acre campus of Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf, located at 40 Frost Mill Road, Mill Neck, N.Y.
The curriculum, funded in part by grants from the LCMS and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, is based on a series of 12 written and American Sign Language (ASL) Bible stories for children, which were written by deaf Christians.
Using the Bible story books as the basis of the curriculum, LFD will bring the Gospel into the lives of children through a combination of ASL, expressive artwork, the written word and video.
Activities will include lessons taught by Jennifer Ceyanes, an instructor who is deaf, along with arts and crafts, water games and other activities. ASL interpretation will be provided.
Deaconess Phyllis Yee, coordinator of the camp, emphasizes that the camp is for both deaf and hearing children: “Bible Camp is for all children to be able to learn God’s Word and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone around them.”
The cost of the camp, which runs daily from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., is $30, with lunch provided.
