February ‘Witness’ asks, ‘Who is my neighbor?’

Following on the heels of its January issue on missions, evangelism and “witness,” The Lutheran Witness in February turns its attention toward “mercy” as it explores how Lutherans show God’s love by working to meet the physical and spiritual needs of those around them.

Highlights include the Rev. Randall Ehrichs’ dramatic account of weathering Hurricane Michael in a makeshift shelter at his church; a profile of Mary Bates, whose LCMS Recognized Service Organization serves “the poorest of the poor” in rural Appalachia; and an eye-opening trip back in time with the Rev. Dr. Joel Elowsky to understand how Christians in the Early Church helped the needy in their communities.

The spirit of the issue is well expressed in its cover story, “Who is my neighbor?,” as the Rev. Robert Zagore reminds readers that “in the family of God, we never run out of people to love.”
