From the mission field – Spanish Dogmatics volumes printed

Missionaries at the LCMS regional office in Santiago, Dominican Republic, recently watched as the Rev. Carlos Schumann of Luther Academy presented copies of new Spanish translations of two titles from the Confessional Lutheran Dogmatics series to the Rev. Geraldo Schüler, president of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil, and the Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, president of the LCMS.

Luther Academy promotes Lutheran theology and research around the world through conferences and publications such as the Confessional Lutheran Dogmatics series. The series, initiated in 1984 by the Rev. Dr. Robert Preus, then-president of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, is now being translated into Spanish by Schumann and other scholars. Once a volume is translated, it is distributed as an e-book via the VDMA (Verbum Domini Manet in Aeternum, “The Word of the Lord Endures Forever”) project and also made available for use as a textbook for Luther Academy conferences taught by Schumann.

Now, for the first time, two of the Spanish volumes — Baptism and Christology, both written by the Rev. Dr. David P. Scaer — are also available in print. It is these two volumes that were presented at the ceremony in Santiago.

Lutheran Heritage Foundation, an organization that focuses on introducing people to Jesus in languages that they can understand, has committed to providing the funding for 300 print copies of the first three Spanish volumes of the Confessional Lutheran Dogmatics series. These will be placed in the Lutheran seminaries, Bible institutes and other Lutheran institutions in the LCMS Latin America and the Caribbean region, as well as in the United States, where more Spanish speakers are attending LCMS seminaries and universities.
