The Lutheran Witness serves the laity of the LCMS by faithfully sharing the treasures of Lutheran doctrine; teaching the history of the Lutheran church; combating false doctrine; and helping LCMS Lutherans live, believe and die as Lutherans. This Lutheran witness does not focus on human works, but on Christ and God’s revelation of Him in the Word of God.
That is, with St. Paul, The Lutheran Witness seeks “nothing … except Jesus Christ and him crucified” (1 Cor. 2:2) so as to publicly portray, before the eyes of the world, the One who was crucified for the sins of the world (Gal. 3:1).
To accomplish this task, The Lutheran Witness calls on Lutheran writers to write on timely topics in a way that helps our readers look at the world from a Lutheran perspective. In 2021, the magazine has published issues on subjects such as the church (June/July), the four Gospels (April), how to live chaste and decent lives (January), and superstitions (March).
Typically, these themes for The Lutheran Witness are decided months in advance. This November, however, the theme is entirely up to you, the writers and theologians of the LCMS. The November issue of LW will publish the best six to eight articles submitted by LCMS writers over the last year.
Submissions for the November issue are due Aug. 1. The LW website at witness.lcms.org/contribute explains how to submit an article and outlines the general process every article undergoes before publication.
