The Rev. David R. Nehrenz of Norman, Okla., was elected to his first term as president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Oklahoma District at the district’s 50th convention, held June 10–11 in Edmond, Okla. He replaces the Rev. Barrie E. Henke, who is retiring as district president after serving four terms. Nehrenz formerly served as the district’s first vice-president.
Also elected were:
- Rev. Christopher D. Hall of Tulsa, Okla., as first vice-president;
- Rev. Mark R. Muenchow of Oklahoma City as second vice-president; and
- Rev. Tim L. McCarty of Kingfisher, Okla., as third vice-president.
The officers were installed at the convention.
Among the resolutions adopted, delegates voted to:
- Request expanded permissions for the 1986 translation of Luther’s Small Catechism;
- Reaffirm the sanctity of life as the U.S. Supreme Court considers overturning Roe v. Wade; and
- Develop district sabbatical guidelines for congregations, schools and called church workers.
The theme of the convention was “Burning Hearts … Open Lips … Joyful Witness!” based on Luke 24:31–36.
