Statement from LCMS Board of Directors
May 22, 2026
The sale by Concordia University Wisconsin and Ann Arbor (CUWAA) of the Geddes Road property in Ann Arbor, Mich., to the University of Michigan has been approved by the University of Michigan Board of Regents.
The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) Board of Directors is mindful that this is a poignant announcement for CUAA students and alumni, for others with close ties to the campus, and for all who have benefited through the years from the service of the Ann Arbor institution on this campus. The board understands that for the congregations in Michigan and the surrounding region — for and on behalf of whom the campus once served with special nearness and dearness — this sale closes a chapter many had wished to remain open.
The resources CUWAA is obtaining by its sale of this property will be used to support its provision of Lutheran higher education, both at the Ann Arbor North Campus and more broadly. We pray the Lord grant fruitfulness to new chapters opened with these resources, for and on behalf of the whole Synod, but especially for those who have felt this loss — and especially as those new chapters bear on the provision of church workers, a critical need for the whole Synod and every part of it.
We also pray for CUWAA and for all those affected by this change, that the Lord would continue to grant wisdom, guidance and brotherly love, and that — in all things and with all we have and do together — Christ and Him crucified would be upheld.
