“Luther,” the recent motion picture about the life and times of Martin Luther that ran in hundreds of theaters this fall, will be reissued for one week to theaters in communities where there is sufficient interest, according to one of the movie’s producers.
“To place `Luther’ in a theater for a one-week run requires a miminum sale of approximately 500 tickets,” said Dennis Clauss, co-executive producer of the film, as well as church and community project leader for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
“We encourage those who want to see the movie in their area sometime during January through March to assess the possibility of attracting 500 movie-goers,” Clauss said.
“Luther” stars Joseph Fiennes in the title role, Sir Peter Ustinov, Alfred Molina, Bruno Ganz and Clair Cox.
Clauss said that the film “has broad audience appeal and an exceptionally high rating by those who have seen it.”

“We will work with those who contact us and with their local theaters to arrange a suitable week for showing `Luther,'” Clauss said.
He suggested that schools and churches organize groups to see the film and that in larger communities, arrangements may be made for advance showings for groups of pastors.
Clauss said that DVDs and VHS tapes of “Luther” for home viewing are “unlikely to be available before mid-to-late 2004.”
