Wheat Ridge Ministries of Itasca, Ill., announced that 31 Lutheran congregations — including eight in the LCMS — are recipients of more than $53,000 in 2004 Congregation Health and Hope grants.
An Oct. 26 Wheat Ridge news release says the purpose of the grants is “to facilitate the initial development of congregation-based health and wellness ministries.”
Each congregation receives a grant of up to $2,000, which it matches dollar-for-dollar.
The eight Synod congregations are Community Lutheran Church, Escondido, Calif.; Holy Cross Lutheran Church, North Canton, Ohio; King of Glory Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, Va.; Lutheran Church of the Incarnate Word, Oakland, Mich.; Mountain View Lutheran Church, Apache Junction, Ariz.; Nazareth Lutheran Church, Baltimore, Md.; St. John Lutheran Church, Dublin, Ohio; and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Gibbon, Minn.
According to the news release, congregations use the grant funds for “health-related events and leadership development, staff training, planning, materials, resources or equipment directly related to program development; or contract services or new staff essential for program development.”
Any Lutheran congregation — individually or in partnership with others — may apply for the annual grants.
