David Jacobson dies; Bronxville provost

Dr. David C. Jacobson, provost at Concordia College, Bronxville, N.Y., since 2000, died Dec. 5 at a Valhalla, N.Y., hospital of complications from pancreatic cancer.
 
A memorial service was held Dec. 11 at the college.
 
Jacobson, 59 at the time of his death, joined the Bronxville faculty in 1976 to teach philosophy.  Until he was named provost, he also was chair of its Division of Bahavioral and Applied Sciences and director of academic planning (1981-86), registrar (1983-86), and academic dean (1986-2000). 
 
A 1971 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Jacobson earned a master’s degree from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., and a doctorate from the State University of New York, Stony Brook.
 
Among survivors are his wife, Kathryn, of Tuckahoe, N.Y.; and two daughters — Kristin, Chicago, Ill., and Karen, Portland, Ore.
 
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Jacobson Endowment Fund, Concordia College, 171 White Plains Road, Bronxville, NY 10708.
