Friedrich accepts call to Seward presidency

Rev. Brian Friedrich has accepted the call to be the 10th president of Concordia University Nebraska, at Seward, beginning in July.  He will succeed Dr. Orville Walz, who is retiring after 14 years as president.

Friedrich, 46, is currently vice president for institutional advancement and assistant to the president at Concordia, Seward, and serves as president of the Concordia Foundation, Inc.

He joined the university staff in 1991 as director of its Centennial Campaign.  He also has been the dean of development and college relations (1993-94).

A 1986 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Friedrich previously was pastor of Peace Lutheran Church, Park Falls, Wis. (1988-90).  He was a teacher and dean of the chapel at Martin Luther High School, Maspeth, N.Y., while serving as assistant pastor of the Lutheran Church of St. John, Flushing, N.Y., from 1986 to 1988.
