School and health kits prepared by U.S. Lutherans for children in Iraq have been so well received that the deadline for the Lutheran Hour Ministries project, “Iraqi Children — Precious in His Sight,” has been extended.
Nearly 2,500 boxes of school supplies and almost 2,000 health kits
U.S. Army Capt. Norman Cox, who is overseeing distribution of the health kits, said via e-mail that his outreach-program coordinator in Iraq “could not say enough about these packages and the obvious care that went into assembling and packing. Please tell everyone thank you very much and that they were extremely well received by the kids.”
Both Cox and Chaplain (CPT) James Freitag, who is in charge of school-kit distribution, are “ecstatic” about the program, according to Rev. Rudy Schaser, manager of international volunteer services with Lutheran Hour Ministries. More Iraqi schools are now requesting the kits, Schaser said, so the project has been extended.
Under the new deadlines, health kits must be mailed by Nov. 1, and school kits by Jan. 1. The previous deadline was Sept. 30.
