The 10th annual Arizona Lutherhostel, sponsored by the Association of Lutheran Older Adults (ALOA), will be held March 15-19 at “Picture Rocks” near Tucson, Ariz.
Lutherhostel events are designed to provide opportunities for older adults to experience intellectual, social and spiritual growth in a relaxed, congenial setting.
This year’s event will feature daily presentations on “Biblical Studies from a Middle-Eastern Perspective” by Rev. Donald Cornell, a retired pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. For 21 years, Cornell served an international, interdenominational English-speaking congregation in Ras Tunura, Saudi Arabia. His wife, JoAnn, will lead a presentation titled “A Look Into the Life of Arab Women.”
Other presentations will focus on Native American tribes; Black memorabilia and the contributions of African Americans to U.S. history and culture; slides and artifacts from Saudi Arabia; and information about Teen Challenge, a program that helps teenagers and adults resist alcohol and drug abuse.
Participants also will have an opportunity to see how Ukranian Easter eggs are designed and painted, take a tour of an Islamic mosque and join two nature hikes.
