Registration opens for youth-worker conference

A new Synod youth-workers conference is more than a year off, but the registration fee is lowest for those who register for it at the LCMS Youth Gathering July 24-28.

The first national Lutheran Youth Workers Conference, sponsored by LCMS District and Congregational Services — Youth Ministry, is set for July 21-24, 2005, at the Loew’s Vanderbilt hotel in Nashville, Tenn.  It is open to adults working with youth in LCMS congregations and districts and to high-school-age youth accompanying them who are participating in Lutheran Youth Fellowship’s teen leadership training initiative titled “Truly Caring Teens.”  Theme of the conference is “Resonate 2005.”

The registration fee is $175 per person for those who register at the youth-ministry booth in the Gathering’s exhibit area.  From Aug. 1 through Dec. 31, online registration is $225.  And starting Jan. 1, the registration fee becomes $250.

The new conference replaces Congregating of Lutheran Youth Counselors (CLYC), an annual meeting for volunteer youth workers the youth-ministry office had sponsored since 1990.

“We were noticing that a conference originally aimed at volunteer youth workers had become a successful event for youth workers from all settings,” said Gretchen Jameson, communications manager for Youth Ministry and director for the new conference.  “We felt the time had come to stretch the focus of the conference to allow youth workers throughout the church an opportunity to grow and dialog together.”

For more information about the new conference, call LCMS Youth Ministry at (800) 248-1930, Ext. 1152, or go to http://dcs.lcms.org/youth — which also is the address for registering online, starting next month.
