Sam Goltermann dies; past president of Concordia, Austin

Dr. Samuel I. Goltermann, president of Concordia College (now University), Austin, Texas, from 1960 to 1963, and a former Synod staff member, died of an apparent heart attack April 24 at his home in St. Louis. 
 
The funeral service was April  28 at Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Louis, where Goltermann served as pastor from 1975 until his retirement in 1993.  Interment followed at Concordia Cemetery, also in St. Louis.
 
Goltermann, 78, was assistant executive secretary for the Synod’s Board for Higher Education from 1963 to 1975.
 
After his graduation in 1948 from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, he served two congregations in Kentucky before joining the faculty at Austin in 1956.  He received an honorary doctorate in 1965 from Concordia Theological Seminary, then located in Springfield, Ill.
 
Goltermann is survived by a sister, Dorothy L. Ebert of Oviedo, Fla.
