Three Lutherhostels sponsored by the national Association of Lutheran Older Adults (ALOA) and Lutheran higher-education institutions are on tap for this summer.
They are set for June 20-24 at (and co-sponsored with) The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (Pa.); July 10-15, Concordia University, Irvine, Calif.; and July 20-24, Luther College, Decorah, Iowa.
The Philadelphia Lutherhostel will look into the life and ideas of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Also scheduled are visits to the National Liberty Museum and the nearby Mercer Museum, which specializes in artifacts of pre-industrial America. Registration cost is $395 per person, which includes program, meals, and lodging, or $295 without lodging. June 13 is the deadline for registration.
At Irvine, Dr. Steven Mueller, a Concordia theology professor and author, will speak on “The Enduring Witness of C.S. Lewis.” Other planned activities include dinners at the homes of Lutherhostel hosts and the university’s president, a concert, a winery tour, and a dinner-theater performance. Registration is $495 per person for double-occupancy lodging, with some limited single-occupancy available for $50 more. Commuter registration is $375. July 1 is the registration deadline.
Scheduled in conjunction with the Lutheran Summer Music Academy and Festival, the Decorah Lutherhostel features a number of concerts, daily presentations by Lutheran teachers and scholars, and options to tour either historic Winneschiek County or the Iowa countryside. Registration, with a tentative May 31 deadline, is $445 per person for double-room occupancy, $495 for single occupancy, and $393 without lodging.
