The Board for University Education (BUE) and the Board of Directors of the Concordia University System (CUS) is seeking nominations/applications for the executive director BUE/president CUS. The executive director/president is directly responsible to the Board for University Education and is responsible for administering the programs and operations of the BUE/CUS in accordance with the Bylaws of the Synod and the CUS; directing cooperative and coordinative efforts of ten (10) individual institutional activities and programs in the leadership areas of curriculum, advancement, funds development, finances, administrative information systems (CAIS), Concordia University Education Network (CUEnet), For the Sake of the Church effort (FSOTC), communication, faculty and student exchanges, and shared/consolidated services and uniform reporting systems.
Specific responsibilities shall include establishing and implementing financial standards, and developing a network of contacts for soliciting financial support from major philanthropic organizations and foundations and other sources, along with developing strategy and monitoring the results of local and regional support for endowments, scholarships, etc., in coordination with The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod Department of Ministry Support; providing leadership in academic quality; marketing the programs and institutions of the CUS to expand and coordinate recruitment efforts and marketing activities; establishing linkages among the CUS campuses to coordinate activities where appropriate and advantageous to the system; and working closely with institutional administrators in leadership development and succession planning. The administrative responsibilities shall include preparation of board agendas, developing the operation budget for the BUE and monitoring adherence to such budget; coordinating triennial visits to the campuses for the board; monitoring the activities of the institutions and reporting significant activities and needs to the board; coordinating salary administration for the system and supervising staff members approved by the BUE; and carry out studies as requested by the board; serve as liaison on behalf of the board, and conduct the regular administrative responsibilities assigned by the board.
Applicants/nominees must be ordained or commissioned ministers on the roster of the Synod; faithfully committed to the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions, and supportive of the Synod’s constitution, bylaws and policies; have five years of educational administrative and management experience in an education institution at a significant level; possess an earned doctorate in a recognized field or advanced degree and equivalent experience; have experience in financial analysis and fiscal management; have proven knowledge and capability in budgeting, marketing and fund development; have demonstrated oral and written communication skills, be active members of LCMS congregations, have demonstrated the highest ethical standards, strong work ethic, commitment to quality higher education; have the ability to work with others, and possess skills in problem solving and finding solutions to challenging issues.
